Crossing the Bridge by Yuwei Li
This photo was taken in Lishui, China. Lishui literally means "Beautiful Rivers / Lakes." It is a region known for its scenic beauty and has inspired poets and painters for ages. Photographically it was made internationally famous by Daniel Kordan, whose depiction of Lishui won a few international awards. My photo was taken during a workshop. We were led to the spot in early morning before sunrise. The weather cooperated - a dense fog that made the distant mountains fade in and out, creating a washed out background that made the subjects pop. 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 at 80mm, 1/500, f/6.7, ISO 800, Aperture priority, Pattern metering.
Charles Bridge by Dorothy Rosenbladt
Last June Bob and I were in Prague for a Bryan Peterson workshop. I took this photo of the Charles Bridge from the patio of a restaurant along the Vltava River. It was a particularly dramatic blue hour that evening with that wonderful ‘just before the storm ‘ kind of lighting spreading across the sky. The deep blue colors were beautiful, but I think that the contrast in this thirty second exposure supports a transformation to black and white very nicely.
